it worked!!!

well "operation sleep training" seems to be working. mom asked the pediatrician at my 6th month appointment what her advice was to get me to sleep longer at night. i was still waking up about 3 times a night to eat. she told mom that i really should be sleeping longer and i really did not *need* to eat that much at night. mom had a feeling that was the case but that is what mom needed to hear. she didn’t want to just stop feeding me on her own if i really still needed it. she didn’t want her little porker to be hungry.

so, the doctor’s advice was to just give me my paci when i woke up and put me back to sleep however mom could without feeding me. she said to do this for 5 nights in a row and it should break my habit of waking up so often.

well, mom listened to her advice and started “operation sleep training.” the first night i still woke up about 3 times and mom had to get me out of my crib and give me my paci and rock me back to sleep. at first i did not want the paci and cried for a few minutes but finally i gave in because i really was tired. each night it seemed to get better and better and i woke less often, and usually mom could just come in and give me back my paci, pat my back for a minute and i would go back to sleep. a few times i asked to be rocked. and by asked, i mean I cried harder and louder until she picked me up. (i like cuddling with mom, what can i tell you).

but now after a couple weeks of sleep training, we are both proud to say i have slept through the night!!! yeah!!!! mom is SO proud of me. last night i slept from 7:45 to 6:00 without waking up at all. of course, mom said she woke up a bunch to listen for me. she is really proud of me and keeps telling me what a big boy i am. she hopes that i continue with this good sleeping, and maybe even take more than a 30 minute cat nap during the day…but she isn’t pressing her luck!!
